CSEMS Information

Introduction

South Mountain Community College has twenty $1,500 per semester scholarships to award to eligible students of Math, Computer Science or Engineering. These scholarships are awarded each semester and are renewable for up to two years, conditional upon continued eligibility and National Science Foundation funding.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Majoring in Computer Science, Engineering, or Math.
  • Full-time student (12+ credit hours) at South Mountain Community College taking courses toward an AS or AAS degree with the intent of transferring to a university to complete a baccalaureate degree.
  • A Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher.
  • Completion of MAT120 (or higher level math) with a grade of C or better.
  • Current enrollment in a math, engineering, or computer science course, (MAT, ECE, CSC).
  • US Citizen or permanent resident.
  • Eligible for Federal Financial Aid.  This is determined through the SMCC financial aid Office by completing the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA) form.

Benefits and Obligations

As part of the CSEMS program, students will receive more that just financial benefits, including a personal faculty mentor to advise and assist them during their time at SMCC. Although academic achievement takes priority, scholarship recipients are expected to give back one hour a week of community service. This can be done through tutoring (either individually or though the Learning Assistance Center), by volunteering to join an I.T. tech support team, or any other suitable means.
